Map Satellite This long, narrow lake lies at the southern end of Adobe Valley. It is a mildly alkaline lake, with white alkaline precipitates around its shores. The water is dark, possibly the result of algal growth. Along the perimeter there are patches of marsh, dominated by tules, Scirpus sp. Mallards, Anas platyrhynchos, and cinnamon teal, Anas cyanoptera, nest here in small numbers, as may the gadwall, Anas strepera. During migration, a number of birds utilize the site, including eared grebe, Podiceps caspicus, and Wilson's phalarope, Steganopus tricolor. Up to 20,000 individuals of the latter species have been reported on the lake at one time. Integrity: The surrounding sedges and grasses have been heavily grazed by cattle, as have some of the tops of the more accessible tules. Use: Scientific, educational, observational, Portion private.
