Map Satellite One of many fractures in the glassy volcanic rock covering the area north of Mammoth Mountain, this is easily reached by road and has been developed as a picnic area. Technically this is a rift or fissure, several meters across and nearly twenty deep. The sides of the crack would fit together perfectly if it were to close. The area lies in a red fir forest. Integrity: Developed as a picnic area which does not affect the prime feature. Use: Observational, light recreational May 1975
