Earthquake Fault Picnic Area

Map     Satellite

One of many fractures in the glassy volcanic rock covering the area north of Mammoth Mountain, this is easily reached by road and has been developed as a picnic area. Technically this is a rift or fissure, several meters across and nearly twenty deep. The sides of the crack would fit together perfectly if it were to close.

The area lies in a red fir forest.

Integrity: Developed as a picnic area which does not affect the prime feature.

Use: Observational, light recreational
