Map Satellite Midway between the Mono Craters and the Inyo Craters lies Obsidian Dome. Approximately 100 meters (330 feet) high and 1.6 kilometers (l mile) in diameter, this rhyolitic dome was formed between the years 1,000 and 5,000 B.P. The dome is barren save for lichens. A Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, forest surrounds the dome. Integrity: A dirt road and an interpretive trail lie within the area. Use: Research, educational, observational, present. December 1979
