Map Satellite This is the type locality, probably with the Crocker Grove, for the rare Monterey cypress, Cupressus macrocarpa. This tree, which always is found in its natural condition within several hundred meters of the coast, has one of the most limited ranges of any California tree. It is found sporadically in a 3-kilometer (2-mile) belt along the coast from here southeast to Pescadero Point and in several groves in the Point Lobos State Reserve. On the ocean cliffs Erigeron glaucus, Dudleya caespitosa and Eriogonum parvifolium are among the plants present. There are several Costanoan Indian middens in the area. Integrity: The point where the main old cypresses are has been made into a golf course and there are houses near the course. Use: Private; however, the area is noted in the guide to the 17-Mile Drive as a point of interest. Ref: Howitt, B. F. 1972. Forest Heritage: A Natural History of the Del Monte Forest. Calif.
