Hunter Liggett Jolon Area

Map     Satellite

In a meadow-like open area between the store in Jolon and the foothills to the east there are several mounds and vernal pools. These mounds harbor a number of endemic species or plants rare in the County.

This is the only place in the County where the bitterroot, Lewisia rediviva, is found and it is the type locality for the Brodiaea jolonensis. Chlorogalum purpureum var. purpureum, a rare species, is also found here. Other species of note include Plagiobothrys nothofulvus, Lupinus nanus, Platystemon californicus and Delphinium variegatum.

Integrity: The area is fenced and is grazed but the flora appears to be in good condition.

Use: Educational, research, observational.
