Jetty Beach Inlet

The open water immediately inland from Jetty Beach and connected to the mouth of Elkhorn Slough together with the adjacent remnants of salt marsh are included in this area. Vegetation in the salt marsh includes cord grass, Spartina foliosa, and pickleweed, Salicornia sp.

Numerous shorebirds, waterfowl and water-oriented birds utilize this area as resting and feeding grounds during the migratory season. Nearly 100 species have been sighted in or near the estuary. The endangered brown pelican, Pelecanus occidentalis, is a regular visitor to the area.

Integrity: A road with culverts crosses the inlet near its upper end. There is a marina near the mouth, and portions are leveed.

Use: Research, educational, observational, present.
