Map Satellite This area includes both stabilized and unstabilized sand dunes. Vegetation on the bluffs is coastal sage scrub with Rhamnus californica, Gaultheria shallon, Lupinus chamissonis and Salvia mellifera. The rare plants Ceanothus rigidus and Arctostaphylos edmundsii are found in the area, as is the endemic Ceanothus griseus var. horizontalis. This is the type locality for the latter two plants. In the stabilized dunes, and observable in a road-cut, are fossils dating 10,000 - 15,000 B.P. of the Monterey pine, Pinus radiata, and the Gowen cypress, Cupressus goveniana. This fossil site is the closest known to the present location of these trees. Integrity: Though bisected by Highway 1, the area is relatively undisturbed. Trees have been planted on the bluff.
