Map Satellite Both stabilized and unstabilized dunes as well as a sandy beach are found in this area. The dune vegetation, which varies greatly in abundance, includes coastal strand and some coastal sage scrub. Several rare plants have been collected in the dune area, including Arctostaphylos pumila, Erysimum ammophilum and Ceanothus rigidus. The entire area is included in the critical habitat for the endangered butterfly, Smith's blue, Philotes enoptes smithi. The species feeds on Eriogonum parvifolium or Eriogonum latifolium, both of which occur here. The uncommon California black legless lizard, Anniella pulchra nigra, occurs here. Integrity: There is a quarrying operation in the area and there is off-road-vehicle damage. A portion of the area is adjacent to residential or commercial developments. Various exotic plants occur here. Use: Research, educational, observational. Portions private. January 1978
