Map Satellite This area was one of the richest floristically on the entire Monterey Peninsula; however, it was not discovered by botanists until long after development had taken place and destroyed much of the original vegetation. Still, it is of interest and numerous relict species are found here, including six rare species. They are Allium hickmanii, Arctostaphylos montereyensis, Arctostaphylos pumila, Ceanothus rigidus, Cordylanthus rigidus ssp. littoralis, and Ericameria fasciculata. The soils are sandy, stabilized dunes similar to those in Fort Ord. Integrity: The plants lie south of the main runway on the airport and extend across the roads to the south into the industrial park. Use: Private. (The airport is publicly owned.) July 1975
