Map Satellite Pfeiffer Beach is a small, sandy beach backed by a small, brackish lagoon. Offshore, there are numerous rocks and several sea stacks, one with an arch. On the bluff, to the south, the vegetation is primarily coastal scrub. The rare Arctostaphylos edmundsii occurs in or near the area. Here there are redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens, that have been weathered by the wind, presenting a dwarfed, clipped appearance. This area is the southernmost American station for the circumpolar bearberry, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi. (See Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. ) Integrity: The area is relatively undisturbed. Use: Research, educational, observational, present. January 1978
