Point Sur

Point Sur is a rocky promontory connected to the mainland by a broad section of dune sand and marine terraces. The Point is composed of altered Franciscan volcanics.

Vegetation includes coastal scrub and coastal bluff, with a small amount of chaparral. The rare Arctostaphylos edmundsii occurs here, as does the endemic Ceanothus griseus var. horizontalis.

Integrity: One of the oldest lighthouses in the State, built in 1889, is situated on the Point, and there are residences nearby.

Use: Research, educational, observational, present.
