Map Satellite Surrounded by a breached levee, this island supports a brackish water marsh with bulrush, Scirpus robustus and other spp., cattail, Typha sp., pickleweed, Salicornia virginica, and other tidal marsh plants. The levee is covered with Baccharis pilularis, yarrow, Achillea millefolium, and others. While the area is not permanently flooded, it is frequently covered at high tides and does remain moist. Mudflats fringe the river side of the island, and during the migratory season numerous shorebirds may be observed here. The endangered California clapper rail, Rallus longirostris obsoletus, is present, as is the rare California black rail, Laterallus jamaicensis coturniculus. It is probable that the endangered salt-marsh harvest mouse, Reithrodontomys raviventris, is found in the area. Integrity: Though there is a levee surrounding the island, it has been breached, and this remains one of the few relatively undisturbed marshes in the Napa floodplain. Use: Private February 1976
