Map Satellite Coon Island, at the junction of the Napa Slough and Napa River, supports several communities, including mudflats on the river side, a tidal saltwater marsh and a tule marsh. Dominant species found here include Typha spp. and Scirpus spp. The rare plant Cordylanthus mollis ssp. mollis has been collected in Fly Bay. There is a small upland area with native and exotic annual grasses. Both the endangered salt-marsh harvest mouse, Reithrodontomys raviventris, and the California clapper rail, Rallus longirostris obsoletus, breed here. There is an unusually large population of garter snakes, Thamnophis spp. (See Napa Marshes Waterfowl Management Area). Integrity: There is a building on the island; however, the area is relatively undisturbed. Use: Educational, research, light recreational, public portion; remainder private. February 1976
