Hunting Creek Area

Map     Satellite

Chaparral is the dominant vegetation in this unique area, though MacNab cypress, Cupressus macnabiana, is found scattered throughout the valley.

Four species or subspecies reach the northernmost limits of their range in this area. They are Fremontodendron californicum ssp. californicum, Lonicera subspicata var. denudata, Asclepias vestita, and Helianthus gracilentus. The latter three are up to several hundred kilometers beyond their usual ranges.

The underlying rock is serpentine.

Integrity: A road passes through a portion of the area; otherwise the vegetation is relatively undisturbed.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
