Map Satellite Backing the park and marina at Dana Cove are bluffs that range up to 52 meters (170 feet) high. At Dana Point, on the sea cliff, there is an excellent exposure of mid-Miocene San Onofre breccia. East of the Point the bluffs are formed of varicolored sandstones and shales of the upper-Miocene early-Pliocene Capistrano Formation. A deep-sea fan and submarine canyon are exposed in cross-section here. Vegetation, primarily coastal bluff scrub, is sparse. Integrity: Though there has been development at both the top and bottom of the bluffs, the exposures are relatively undisturbed. Use: Research, educational, observational. Some private. March 1981
