Map Satellite Trending northeast-southwest, this canyon drains a portion of Sierra Peak. The vegetation is varied and includes an oak woodland, chaparral and coastal sage scrub. Chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, is the dominant in the chaparral, and California sagebrush, Artemisia californica, in the sage scrub. Along the creek there is a Southern California riparian association. In portions of the area the underlying sandstone strata are well exposed. These are of marine origin and include formations from the upper Cretaceous, Paleocene and Eocene. Integrity: A fire has burned a portion of the area which is now in a successional stage. A power line crosses the canyon, and at the upper end there are several dirt roads. Use: Research, educational, observational, in public section. Remainder, private. March 1977
