Limestone Canyon

Map     Satellite

The upper portion of this canyon supports a relatively undisturbed region which includes representative stands of chaparral and southern oak woodland.  The chaparral includes chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, holly-leaved cherry, Prunus ilicifolia, and scrub oak, Quercus sp.  In the southern oak woodland the dominant tree is the coast live oak, Quercus agrifolia.

Geologically, several strata differing in color are exposed, including non-marine sedimentary rocks, primarily sandstones, from the Oligocene and marine sedimentaries of the Eocene.

Near the head of the canyon there is a spring which supplies an intermittent stream.

Integrity:  Aside from a jeep trail, the upper portion of the canyon is virtually undisturbed.
