Map Satellite On the northwest slope of Sierra Peak is the northernmost stand of the Tecate cypress, Cupressus forbesii. (There are a few specimens a few kilometers north, across the Santa Ana River.) The stand is a disjunct, some 160 kilometers (100 miles) northwest of the San Diego stands. (See Guatay Mountain, Tecate Peak Cypress Grove, Otay Mountain.) Among the sparse and semi-dwarfed chaparral in the area, the tree poppy, Dendromecon rigida, Yucca whipplei and Nolina parryi are present. Integrity: A number of fires have occurred in the stand, the latest in 1948 and 1955; however, the reproduction has been good. There is a mine nearby, and a jeep road cuts across a part of the area. Use; Research, educational, observational. Some private. December 1979
