Antone Meadows Natural Area

Antone Meadows is located in the Burton Creek State Park. The main feature of the area is the high montane meadow.

Dominant plants in the meadow area include alkali ryegrass, Leymus triticoides, blue wild rye, Elymus glaucus, meadow barley, Hordeum brachyantherum, sedges, Carex spp., and reedgrass, Calamagrostis spp.

Along the creek which traverses the meadow there is a riparian community consisting of mountain alder, Alnus tenuifolia, dogwood, Cornus sericea ssp. sericea, Lemmon willow, Salix lemmonii, yellow willow, Salix lasiandra, Scouler's willow, Salix scouleriana, and quaking aspen, Populus tremuloides.

Surrounding the meadow a mixed conifer forest occurs with Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, lodgepole pine, Pinus contorta ssp. murrayana, red fir, Abies magnifica, and white fir, Abies concolor. The understory includes pinemat manzanita, Arctostaphylos nevadensis, and squaw carpet, Ceanothus prostratus.

Animals are typical of the Tahoe Basin.

Integrity: Aside from a jeep trail in a part of the preserve, the area is virtually pristine.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
