Map Satellite This area in the Sierra Valley includes marsh and seasonal marsh that provide habitat for many forms of wildlife. Among the more conspicuous plants present are tules, Scirpus sp., cattail, Typha sp., and spike rush, Eleocharis sp. Portions of the area are dry during a part of the year. Numerous birds have been sighted in the area, including 14 species of waterfowl and 25 species of shorebirds and water-associated birds. The Sierra Valley is an important wintering area for a variety of raptors such as the golden eagle, Aquila chrysaetos, and the endangered bald eagle, Haliaeetus leucocephalus leucocephalus. Located in an active geothermal zone, there is an active hot springs in the area, an important source of water for the marsh. The floor of the valley is composed of Quaternary lake deposits. Integrity: The area has been grazed and there are ruins of the buildings that housed the hot springs resort. Use: Private April 1976
