Map Satellite A red fir forest, with Abies magnifica, lodgepole pine, Pinus contorta ssp. murrayana, western white pine, Pinus monticola, and Jeffrey pine, Pinus jeffreyi, along with Ceanothus cordulatus, grows in the volcanic soil on the slopes of Mount Ararat. Here, too, is one of the few known colonies of the rare Penstemon personatus. This plant is found here and in three small colonies in Butte County to the west. Integrity: The area is relatively undisturbed; however, there has been recent logging in the vicinity. Use: Research, educational, observational. September 1975
