Prado Basin

Map     Satellite

North of the Prado Dam is a flood-control area with an annually fluctuating water level ranging from scattered ponds to a relatively large lake, depending on the season. The Santa Ana River flows through the Basin.

Vegetation is highly disturbed and includes a number of exotics.  Sycamores, Platanus racemosa, cottonwood, Populus fremontii, and willow, Salix spp., are main trees in the riparian areas.

The Basin is an important resting and feeding ground for migratory waterfowl.  Among them are Canada geese, Branta canadensis, widgeon, Anas americana, mallard, Anas platyrhynchos, pintail, Anas acuta, shoveler, Anas clypeata, and black-necked stilts, Himantopus mexicanus.

Integrity: The area is highly disturbed.

Use: Present.
