Rock Corral (Robbers' Corral)

Map     Satellite

Biologically, this area is rich in plant and animal species characteristic of a relatively undisturbed oak woodland riparian community. Buckeye, Aesculus californica, three oaks, interior live, valley and blue, Quercus wislizenii, Quercus lobata and Quercus douglasii, and cottonwood, Populus fremontii, are the more prominent species.

Grasslands with some vernal pool habitats are adjacent to the area. A small stream, with associated marsh plants in the pools and backwaters, flows through the area.

There are conspicuous basaltic and limestone outcrops. Indian grinding rocks are found here.

Integrity: Grazed, and well used as a horseback riding and hiking area, the major feature of the community is intact. Historically, the area was used as a cattle rustlers rendezvous.

Use: Private. Area appears on master plan as a park, but is unfunded.
