Sacramento Springs

MAP     Satellite

Amidst the creosote bush scrub is this oasis where several springs flow year-round.  In the vicinity of the springs there is a dense thicket with mesquite,

Prosopis glandulosa var. torreyana, willow, Salix sp., and the introduced tamarisk, Tamarix sp.; in the wet portion, cattail, Typha sp., is present.

Bordering and intergrading with the oasis vegetation is the scrub, which includes Larrea tridentata, jumping cholla, Opuntia bigelovii, and ocotillo, Fouquieria splendens.

As a result of the year-round water supply there is an abundance of animals, particularly birds.  During the spring a number of migrant species are found in the vicinity.  Lucy's warbler, Vermivora luciae, breeds here.

Integrity:  There are buildings and a well in the area and a highway nearby.  Grazing has occurred in the past.

Use:  Research, educational, observational, on public portion.  Most of the area is private.
