San Sevaine Cow Camp
Map SatelliteA very rich flora is found in this grassy, vernally moist meadow on the San Sevaine Ridge in the San Gabriel Mountains. There are a number of endemics, including Navarretia intertexta and Cornus nuttallii which are known in the San Gabriels only from this locale. Other endemic or uncommon species occurring here are Agrostis scabra, Epilobium densiflorum, Brodiaea terrestris ssp. kernensis, Bromus orcuttianus var. hallii, Collinsia childii, Cystopteris fragilis, Epipactis gigantea, Erigeron philadelphicus, Iris hartwegii ssp. australis, and Juncus effusus var. pacificus. Among others, the rare Lilium parryi and Trichostema austromontanum occur here.
Integrity: A cement watering trough collects water from the spring and there is a firebreak along one side of the meadow, but no serious disturbance has taken place.
Use: Educational, research, observational.
