Over most of the area the preponderantly dominant shrub is chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, but there is a scattering of other chaparral plants as well as of some plants more characteristic of the coastal sage scrub.
Shrubs of the ridgetop include yerba santa, Eriodictyon crassifolium, mission manzanita, Xylococcus bicolor, romero, Trichostema lanatum, laurel sumac, Malosma laurina, black sage, Salvia mellifera, buckwheat, Eriogonum fasciculatum, and Lotus scoparius. Shrubs more characteristic of the arroyos and north slopes include scrub oak, Quercus sp., toyon, Heteromeles arbutifolia, and California sagebrush, Artemisia californica.
Animals are typical of the area.
