Fortuna Mountain
Field StationMap Satellite
The field station contains a heterogeneous combination of chaparral and coastal sage scrub as well as both distinct and integrated stands. Among the more prominent species are chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, black sage, Salvia mellifera, Xylococcus bicolor, and Ceanothus tomentosus.
The location is such that the effects of north-south slope exposure on plant and animal species composition and density, as well as fuel accumulation, are well demonstrated.
Integrity: There are several fire trails in the area, but no other development.
Use: Educational, research, observational.
