On the north slope of Guatay Mountain, above the campground, is an exceptionally fine stand of the rare Tecate cypress, Cupressus forbesii.  Some of the largest known specimens of the tree are found in this locality.  The nearest population is some 32 kilometers (20 miles) south, on Tecate Peak (see Otay Mountain and Tecate Peak Cypress Grove).

Surrounding vegetation is chaparral, with such species as chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Ceanothus oliganthus and Arctostaphylos glandulosa prominent.

Integrity:  The area is undisturbed.
