Soledad Mountain

MAP     Satellite

Chaparral and coastal sage scrub are both present here in the typical form.  The dominant is the chaparral, with the scrub apparently in a successional stage after fire.

Two rare plants are found in the area, Ferocactus viridescens and Ophioglossum californicum.

Much of the mountain is rich in invertebrate fossil localities, few of which have been studied.

Integrity:  A portion of the mountain is a County Park, with a large parking area and viewing site on the summit.  The adjacent private areas are being developed.

Use:  Research, education, observational in the Soledad Park area; elsewhere private, none.
