Hospital Canyon

Map     Satellite

In this canyon are found the most fossiliferous rocks of the Lower Cretaceous age (Albian) in the San Joaquin Valley. They consist of siltstone and shale with concretionary, lenticular sandstone interbedded.

Numerous specimens of ammonites and pelecypods have been found, as has some woody debris.

These rocks are in fault contact with Franciscan volcanic rocks.

Integrity: Grazed, fenced; a highway passes through the lower portion.

Use: Private
