Sycamore Slough Island

This island, which lies in the South Mokelumne River, several hundred meters upstream from the mouth of Sycamore Slough, is a good example of a Delta marsh.

Plants include cattail, Typha sp., tules, Scirpus sp., sedge, Cyperus sp., and spike-rush, Eleocharis sp. In the higher reaches there are willow thickets with Salix sp.

A number of animals are found here including a breeding colony of black-crowned night heron, Nycticorax nycticorax.

Integrity: The area is virtually undisturbed. 

Use: Research, educational, observational.
