Geode Mountain

Map     Satellite

Several plant communities are present on this site, the most conspicuous being the grassland with many showy spring wildflowers. There is also some coastal scrub, an oak woodland, and a mixed evergreen forest. Madrone, Arbutus menziesii, and California bay, Umbellularia californica, are the dominants in the forest. One of the bay trees here is probably the largest in Central California.

Of particular interest is the mountain itself, which is of volcanic origin and is possibly composed of Franciscan volcanic or metavolcanic rock. There is an abundance of geodes.
