Los Osos Bishop Pines Area

Map     Satellite

Four small stands of Bishop pine, Pinus muricata, occur in this area on the sandy soil and stabilized dunes. The largest of these groves appears to be a relict. In several of the groves the trees bear cones corresponding to Pinus remorata or intermediate between Pinus remorata and Pinus muricata. Additionally, several endemics are found here also, including Arctostaphylos pechoensis and Arctostaphylos morroensis. The beach almond, Prunus fasciculata var. punctata, reaches its northern limits in this area.

Integrity: Two of the stands are in residential areas and the others are located several hundred meters from the residential area.
