Los Osos Oaks Natural Preserve

Map     Satellite

In this small preserve is an extensive stand of coast live oaks, Quercus agrifolia, some quite large, some "dwarfed." Poison oak, Toxicodendron diversilobum, is the principal ground cover, though there is some coastal scrub with Ceanothus sp. and Arctostaphylos sp. present. In the open areas there are good wildflower displays during the spring.

Numerous animals frequent the area.

Consolidated sand dunes of Pleistocene origin are the only soils in the area.

Integrity: There are several trails in the area.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
