Rinconada Mine Area
Map SatelliteMuch of the area is in a mixed evergreen forest, with such species as coast live and valley oak, Quercus agrifolia and Quercus lobata, California bay, Umbellularia californica, and digger pine, Pinus sabiniana.
Chaparral is found on a portion of the area and includes such species as Salvia mellifera, Salvia sonomensis, Salvia spathacea, Quercus sp., Heteromeles arbutifolia, Yucca whipplei, Garrya veatchii and Cercocarpus betuloides. There is some grassland.
Three rare plants occur here: Carex obispoensis, Monardella palmeri and Sanicula hoffmannii.
The area is underlain by rocks of the Franciscan formation and there are serpentine outcrops.
Integrity: A mercury (cinnabar) mine is located within the area and there are primitive roads; however, the vegetation is relatively undisturbed.
