San Marcos Creek Site In this relatively small area along San Marcos Creek there is an abundance of plant species, perhaps more than 300. Several communities are present: chaparral, grasslands, and an oak woodland. The dominant tree is the blue oak, Quercus douglasii. Among the more noteworthy species found here are Fritillaria biflora, Eriogonum viridescens and Minuartia pusilla. The latter two may be range extensions. The creek is intermittent. Integrity: The area is grazed, but not enough to diminish the spring wildflower displays. Use: Educational, observational, research.
