This site contains an unusually rich assemblage of wildflowers.

The dominant trees include gray pine, Pinus sabiniana, and blue oak, Quercus douglasii. There are scattered clumps of California juniper, Juniperus californica.

Among some of the other more noteworthy species are Chorizanthe biloba, Chorizanthe douglasii, Mucronea californica, Mucronea perfoliata, Hollisteria lanata, Layia platyglossa, Layia glandulosa ssp. lutea, Lupinus nanus, Linanthus parryae, Oenothera dentata var. campestris (?), Camissonia contorta, Gilia tenuiflora, and Collinsia heterophylla; the last two genera may also be represented by undescribed species.

Much of the area is underlain by Miocene marine sandstones and shales, with some Oligocene non-marine conglomerate. Fossils are present.
