Wunderlich County Park
Map SatelliteOver half of the area in this park is covered by a mixed evergreen forest. The overstory consists of madrone, Arbutus menziesii, Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii. California bay, Umbellularia californica, and several oaks, coast live, black, blue and white, Quercus agrifolia, Quercus kelloggii, Quercus douglasii and Quercus lobata. There are some pure stands of second-growth redwood, Sequoia sempervirens, as well as stands mixed with Douglas fir.
Chaparral, with Arctostaphylos spp. the dominant, occurs in a few small patches, presumably relicts of more extensive stands.
In the grasslands, exotics generally predominate, though there are a few sites where Stipa spp. is a major component.
Animal life is typical of the region.
Integrity: The park was originally part of a working ranch in the 1860-90's and has been grazed and logged. There are various roads and trails and a stable area. Though portions are highly disturbed, since 1974 it has been managed as an undeveloped park.
Use: Research, educational, observational, present.
