Harris Ranch Douglas Fir

MAP     Satellite

A small relict stand of Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, grows here in the Purisima Hills on diatomaceous earth in association with Bishop pine, Pinus muricata.  This is the southernmost stand in California, being over 160 kilometers (100 miles) southeast of the nearest population.  It is some 33 kilometers (21 miles) from the western limit of the big-cone Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga macrocarpa, on Zaca Peak.

Integrity: The stand appears to be in good condition.
