Isla Vista Vernal Pool
Map SatelliteIn the midst of the community of Isla Vista this vacant lot supports one of the few remaining vernal pool flats in the area. Vegetation is a highly disturbed coastal sage scrub.
Several uncommon or rare species are or have been found in the area including the fern, Pilularia americana, Alopecurus saccatus, Psilocarphus brevissimus and Plagiobothrys undulatus. The last three plants have not been observed here in the past decade or longer. The rare Scrophularia atrata occurred in the vicinity and may be present here.
Integrity: The area is surrounded by a residential development and was once a general dumping ground for trash, a use now abated. This area should be thoroughly surveyed.
