More Mesa Bluffs

MAP     Satellite

These bluffs are of geological interest.  There are good exposures of the upper-Miocene Sisquoc and mid-Miocene Monterey formations.

The Santa Barbara formation, of Pleistocene age, exhibits several tar seeps, one in the form of a "fall", and a facias change within a single series of beds.

An assemblage of molluscan fossils, primarily littoral, occurs in the Santa Barbara formation.

Presumably, the tar originated in the Monterey formation.  Offshore there are several tar or oil seeps.

Integrity:  There are steps down the bluff; otherwise there is no disturbance, save natural erosion.

Use:  Private
