Ellicott Station Ecological Reserve

Map     Satellite

This is one of the few known habitats of the endangered Santa Cruz long-toed salamander, Ambystoma macrodactylum croceum. A post-pluvial remnant species, this salamander is on the verge of total extinction because of habitat destruction and over-collecting.

Vegetation on the Reserve includes grassland with Baccharis sp. and a dense willow-blackberry thicket. During the winter and early spring months there is a pond on a portion of the area.

Integrity: The area is adjacent to a trailer park. It is fenced.

Use: Research only.
