Wilder Creek Pond

Map     Satellite

At the mouth of Wilder Creek there is a freshwater marsh backing a small saltwater marsh. The salt marsh is dominated by pickleweed, Salicornia sp. In the freshwater marsh, willows, Salix sp., tule, Scirpus sp., and cattail, Typha sp., are present. Coastal sage scrub occurs in the uplands.

Numerous animals are found in the area. Pigeon guillemots, Cepphus columba, have been known to breed in the area.

A 15-meter (50-foot) bluff, cut in the Pleistocene marine terrace, borders the eastern margin of the area. The stream is infrequently open to the sea.

Integrity: The area is relatively undisturbed.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
