Devils Rock Garden
Map SatelliteAs the name implies, much of this area is a lava jumble, formed of Quaternary volcanics. There are several cinder cones in the area, one of which is of recent origin.
Vegetation in the area surrounding the gardens is primarily a mixed conifer forest, with red fir, Abies magnifica, ponderosa, Jeffrey and sugar pines, Pinus ponderosa, Pinus jeffreyi and Pinus lambertiana, present.
There is also some sagebrush scrub in the area. Mountain misery, Chamaebatia foliolosa, is found here near its northern range limit.
Integrity: most of the forested area is virgin.
Use: Research, educational, observational. Some private.
