Goat Island

Map     Satellite

Bounded by the Sacramento River and a slough and low-lying wetland, this island supports an excellent open stand of valley oak, Quercus lobata, growing on deep, rich soils. The undergrowth is primarily grass, with the native Vulpia octoflora and the non-native Vulpia myuros var. hirsuta abundant. There are a number of other exotics, including Bromus diandrus, Bromus madritensis ssp. rubens, Bromus hordeaceus, and Avena fatua.

Integrity: The area is used as a picnic site, yet is relatively undisturbed.

Use: Educational, research, observational, light recreational.
