Big Meadows And Vicinity

In this area, on the eastern slopes of Red Mountain, are several montane to subalpine meadows, including Big, Sniktaw and Black Meadows, all of which show a great diversity of herbs. The dominant vegetation in the meadows is Carex sp. and Veratrum sp. Stands of aspen, Populus tremuloides, grade into white fir, Abies concolor, and red fir, Abies magnifica, forests.

Four small creeks rise here.

Much of the area is on serpentine soil.

Integrity: Mostly within the Marble Mountain Wilderness, there is a trail within the area and a logging road nearby.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
