Kangaroo Lake
Map SatelliteBetween Kangaroo and Lily Lakes there are some botanically rich meadows. The vegetation changes abruptly from dry, rocky bluff communities to the moist grasslands. Among the numerous wildflowers found here are Lewisia leana, Lewisia nevadensis (color var. pink and yellow), Calochortus nudus, Anemone drummondii, Caltha leptosepala var. biflora, Gentiana calycosa, Gentiana newberryi, Eriogonum siskiyouense, Phyllodoce empetriformis, Astragalus whitneyi var. siskiyouensis, and Penstemon davidsonii. The rare Phacelia dalesiana is also present here.
There are serpentine outcrops in the area.
Integrity: Cattle grazing threatens some of the native flowers. Water in the creek fluctuates due to release of water from the lake. There is a campground in the vicinity.
Use: Research, educational, observational.
