Wooley Creek
Map SatelliteThis area includes the portion of Wooley Creek and its drainage that lies between the Marble Mountain Wilderness and the junction with the Salmon River.
In the lower elevations a mixed evergreen forest occurs, with Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, the dominant. In the middle elevations there is a white fir, Abies concolor, forest which gives way to a red fir, Abies magnifica, forest above 1,800 meters (6,000 feet).
Wooley Creek is one of the few undisturbed streams in northern California that supports spring Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha. Steelhead, Salmo gairdnerii gairdnerii, also spawn in the creek and its tributaries.
Integrity: Several cabins are located near the creek and there is a trail along the creek.
Use: Research, educational, observational on public portions. Some private.
