The Bouverie Ranch lies in Sonoma Valley near Glen Ellen. The main community present is a chaparral consisting of such species as chamise, Adenostoma fasciculatum, mountain mahogany, Cercocarpus betuloides, chaparral pea, Pickeringia montana, Arctostaphylos glandulosa, Arctostaphylos stanfordiana, Arctostaphylos manzanita, Ceanothus parryi, Ceanothus foliosus and the narrow endemic Ceanothus sonomensis.

On the northerly facing slopes and in the canyon which runs through the property there is a mixed evergreen forest with madrone, Arbutus menziesii, tan-oak, Lithocarpus densiflorus, California buckeye, Aesculus californica, California bay, Umbellularia californica, and several species of oak, including coast live, Quercus agrifolia, canyon live, Quercus chrysolepis, and Oregon, Quercus garryana.

Five other species of oak are found on the ranch: blue, Quercus douglasii, scrub, Quercus berberidifolia, leather, Quercus durata, California black, Quercus kelloggii, and interior live, Quercus wislizenii. Some big-leaf maple, Acer macrophyllum, and redwood, Sequoia sempervirens, occur along the stream course.

Animals are relatively abundant and typical of the region. Over 101 species of birds have been observed on the ranch.

There is an intermittent creek with a 15-meter (50-foot) waterfall.

Integrity: Aside from a dirt road in the area, the vegetation is virtually undisturbed. Portions were burned in the 1960's.

Use: Research, educational, observational.
