Coopers' Grove
Map SatelliteCoopers' Grove, lying in a north-facing basin ringed with rolling oak-studded hills, is probably the best isolated stand of second-growth redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens,in the County. Other trees include, in addition to the redwood, coast live oak, Quercus agrifolia, big-leaf maple, Acer macrophyllum, California bay, Umbellularia californica, and madrone, Arbutus menziesii. There is a dense floor covering of Trillium ovatum, Polystichum munitum, Aralia californica, and Trientalis latifolia, among others.
There are several springs in the area, apparently created by a fault zone in the underlying Sonoma volcanics.
Integrity: The redwoods were logged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. There is a dirt road leading into the area.
